Details

What does the future of education look like and how is learning changing? Why are these questions important for all sectors? How might we leverage education leadership, business acumen, and technology innovation to create partnerships and products that support K12 and higher education?
 
Collaborating with UM Office of Digital Education & Innovation, the UM School of Education, Learning and Education Technology at the School of Information (LETSI), Ross SGA, and Design + Business, the inaugural Education xChange will convene UM graduate and undergraduate students, professors, alumni, education and business leaders, and community partners to answer these questions together.

9:30 - 10:30 Demo Space, Registration & Breakfast
Make a Google Cardboard virtual reality viewer, watch product demos of education technology developed at UM and beyond
10:30 - 11:30 Keynote: Jason Katcher, Google for Education, Head of Americas
11:30 - 12:00 Google for Education Demo
12:00 - 12:30 Lunch, catered by Zingerman's 
12:30 - 2:30 Sessions, including:
  • What's Working (and What's Not) in EdTech (12:40-1:30) view of current trends in edtech, opportunities and a critical discussion of lessons learned about the role of technology in K12 and higher education. 
  • Teacher Training: How To Do It Best? (1:40-2:25 in R2220) A dialogue about teacher training and how universities like the University of Michigan as well as programs like Teach for America are innovating their models.?
  • Coding in Schools & Pathways to Tech (1:40-2:25) Presented in a storytelling format, this session will share innovative partnerships and programs that are increasing the participation of women and students of color in tech.
2:30 - 4:30 Design Thinking Challenge [REGISTER HERE]
Facilitated by Design + Business and sponsored by the UM Office of Digital Education and Innovation, this high-energy design thinking session will offer participants the opportunity prototype solutions related to a current K12 education challenge in Detroit developed by Excellent Schools Detroit. After a rapid-fire ideation session, teams will have an informal pitch session in front of industry professionals with prizes for participants with the best ideas.
Why participate? The Design Thinking Challenge will provide participants the opportunity to apply skills and knowledge creatively to a real-world education issue, interact with leading education and technology professionals, gain new skills in design thinking, and win gift certificate prizes. There are a limited number of spaces available for this session, participants MUST REGISTER SEPARATELY AT THIS LINK. Please only register if you will be able to attend.
