The Adam Smith Society and American Enterprise Institute Executive Council are pleased to host economics professor and AEI scholar Mark Perry for a lecture and Q&A on "Free Trade and the Perils of Protectionism." Dr. Perry's primary academic research is in the area of applied macroeconomics and financial economics. Perry's opinion pieces have appeared in most major newspapers around the country, including the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, USA Today and Investor's Business Daily. Professor Perry is perhaps best known as the creator and editor of Carpe Diem, one of the nation's most popular economics blogs. Perry is a a vigorous defender of free enterprise and will discuss the benefits of free trade and weigh in on the recent rise in protectionism.

Mark J. Perry is concurrently a scholar at AEI and a professor of economics and finance at the University of Michigan’s Flint campus. He is best known as the creator and editor of the popular economics blog Carpe Diem. At AEI, Perry writes about economic and financial issues for American.com and the AEIdeas blog.
