Market mechanisms and financial instruments have a pivotal function to play in solving the climate crisis. According to the Climate Policy Initiative, while climate financing for adaptation has grown 28% from USD 49 billion in 2019/2020, it still falls far short of estimated needs of USD 212 billion per year by 2030 for developing countries alone.

We will explore how climate risks, such as the damage to assets from extreme weather events to the potential for changes in consumer behavior impact the economic sustainability of a firm. Then, we will understand financial and market instruments that can be deployed by the private sector to think beyond traditional ways of seeing shareholder value.
