Hello EVC members! Last week was our first EVC General Body Meeting of the year and we had a great turnout. We heard from Anne Perigo about ZLI resources and had an MBA2 panel discuss their internships at start-ups and VC. Last week we also had our first EVC InnovateBrew event of the year where members met up in InnovateBlue's Innovation Space to drink coffee and discuss what they're working on for entrepreneurship:

Our EVC Board is bringing on 5 new Director-level board members. These positions have historically been held by first year MBA students but we are open to all programs. The main requirements are a passion for entrepreneurship, a committment to the club for the entire academic year, and an availability to generally meet on Sundays 2-3pm for board meetings. Learn how to cultivate creativity and an entrepreneurial mindset at Entrepalooza 2016: Creativity Through Entrepreneurship. Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben & Jerrys Ice Cream, will kick off the day (free Ben & Jerry's for the audience!). The event is free and open to the public. The annual university-wide symposium is co-hosted by the Zell Lurie Institute, Innovate Blue, the Center for Entrepreneurship, the School of Public Health, the School of Information, the School of Music Theatre and Dance’s EXCEL Program and MPowered. Entrepalooza Lunch and Learn Roundtable Discussions

EVC Buildathon: the code-free hackathon (in partnership with ProtoHack)

A day-long workshop facilitated by ProtoHack. ProtoHack exists to show non-coders that they can create something amazing from nothing. They empower and enable the non-technical community with the tools, knowledge and connections that will help bring their idea to life and visually communicate it through prototyping. You’ll learn how to use the best prototyping tools in the industry, network with like-minded people with various backgrounds, become a better product person, and get exclusive access to over $500 worth of tools and goodies for registering.
You do not need a team or an idea; the point is to be an entry-level sampler menu for aspiring entrepreneurs who may not have their perfect idea yet. Space is limited, only 30 slots left. $40 per spot, $35 for EVC members. Healthcare spending accounts for more than 17% of the US GDP. The increasing economic impact of the healthcare sector has led to multiple attempts to fundamentally change the delivery of care. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has precipitated a tidal wave of innovation within the healthcare space. The panel of healthcare start-up leaders and investors will focus on the tremendous opportunities for innovation and creative destruction within the healthcare ecosystem. Women Who Fund Forum

The second annual Women Who Fund Forum at the University of Michigan will showcase and connect dynamic women who are breaking through the gender barrier at traditional male strongholds in the alternative investment field and paving the way to rewarding careers for the next generation. They will share their strategies for success and provide tips, tools and tactics that other women can use to reach their full career potential. Mentor2Youth STEM Workshop
Mentor2Youth provides supportive programming to young people in Southeast Michigan. Their Future Leaders program, which serves twenty-five 2nd-7th graders, will be hosting a series of workshops this coming school year focusing on a variety of topics, including STEM. Mentor2Youth is looking for a partner (or partners) to design & present 8 hands-on workshops to introduce and expose kids to STEM. Through these workshops, the organization hopes that their participants can see STEM fields as potential career pathways. The workshops will be held on Thursday evenings for 1.5 hours at Parkridge Community Center in Ypsilanti. The organization is looking at starting the 8 week STEM series in either November or late January. Contact Sara Saylor (ssaylor@umich.edu) if interested!

Handshake is a university recruiting platform available to all UM students. There are a lot of jobs posted there but not on iMpact. For example, after searching for "Product Manager" there were some interesting roles at start-ups that came up targeted towards Masters students. Might be worth checking out if you're still looking for internship/full-time opportunities.
