Our website is currently undergoing a bit of a facelift - KINDLY bear with us

Our Mission

Welcome to Out for Business (OFB) at Ross, the official lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) student association at the University of Michigan's Stephen M. Ross School of Business.

Our mission is based off of three pillars:

Community

We seek to build a strong, diverse community of LGBTQ+ and ally students at Ross where all are welcomed, celebrated, and valued.

Career

We aim to provide a comprehensive set of professional development resources to support the career interests of OFB members.

Awareness

We work to raise awareness among Ross faculty, staff, and students of the issues, experiences, and intersectional identities among LGBTQ+ individuals in the workplace and in society.

We work to achieve our mission by providing professional and social networking opportunities for LGBTQ+ students at Ross while also raising awareness of LGBTQ+ workplace issues. We develop and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, alumni, and corporations to help us achieve these goals.

our commitment to diversity

OFB will continue to support, amplify, advocate, and fight for the basic human and civil rights of our Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) community.

Things we have done:

  • Updated the rainbow in our OFB logo to permanently include colors representing our Black, Brown, and Trans communities -- those who fought for the rights and privileges we have today, yet themselves continue to face unjust discrimination and violence.
  • Donated to the Black Visions Collective, a Black-led, Queer and Trans centering organization dedicated to healing and transformative justice principals.
  • Hosted a screening of The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson, followed by a critical discussion of the effects of racial inequality and police brutality on the Black and LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Featured Black Queer and Trans individuals and organizations on our OFB Instagram account for the remainder of Pride month. These figures and institutions have been and continue to be at the forefront of the fight for LGBTQ+ civil rights.
  • Created a video to amplify our members' diverse voices through personal stories and perspectives.

Things we are doing:

  • Ideating follow up conversations around intersectionality, race, queerness, gender, and allyship.
  • Drafting amendments to the OFB Constitution that ensure panels, events, partnerships, and donations are thoughtfully executed with diverse representation.
  • Continuing to reflect and act -- as an organization and as individuals -- on how we can best follow our Black Business Student Association's Call to Action.

Career Development

We provide our members with career development resources such as mentoring and on/off campus recruiting.

Education & Visibility

We host community wide events to support local LGBTQ+ non profits and to highlight the wider LGBTQ+ business community.

Social

In addition to meetings, Out for Business at Ross organizes a variety of events designed to bring together members of the LGBTQ+ community
