[EVC] InnovateBrew w/ FocusMotion co-founders Cavan Canavan + Grant Hughes

Our third InnovateBrew of the year! This time, we've confirmed the co-founders of FocusMotion, a cross-platform, hardware-agnostic motion recognition system for developers that want to analyze user's movements. FocusMotion recently received an investment by BryantStibel, Kobe Bryant's VC fund. The co-founders, Cavan Canavan and Grant Hughes, are both Ross MBA alums. In this "no tech" session (no tweeting, no recording), Cavan and Grant are going to give the no holds barred perspective of entrepreneurship. You don't want to miss this!

[EVC] Intrapreneurship Lunch + Learn: Google Hangout w/ CTO of athenahealth

Join EVC for lunch and a Google Hangout while we talk to Kyle Armbrester, CTO of athenahealth. Over the last four years at athenahealth, Kyle has launched an app marketplace, developed an accelerator for healthcare technology startups, and now leads the development of athena's hospital EHR. The focus of this conversation will be about intrapreneurship and innovation within the confines of a larger organization.

[EVC + Detroit R&B] Village Capital Energy 16 Venture Forum in Detroit

The Venture Forum is the capstone event of the Village Capital Energy: US 2016 venture development program, which features 9 early-stage companies solving challenges in energy, transportation, and logistics. At the end of the program, the top two program participants will be selected by the other entrepreneurs in the group to receive an investment of up to $125,000 each.

The event runs from 3:30-5:30. Detroit R&B + EVC will subsidize for transportation to Detroit if there is enough interest for a bus, leaving at 2:30 and returning ~6:30pm. Or, you can drive yourself and meet us there! If you want to ride with us, buy a ticket below (sponsored by Village Capital)!

[EVC] General Body Meeting - November

Join EVC for our monthly general body meeting. This month's theme is entrepreneurship and food! We will feature a student entrepreneur who is working to start her food company full-time post-MBA and was recently accepted into Zell Entrepreneurs.

Our guest speaker will be Anthony Hatinger from Detroit Ento, Michigan's first prototyping farm that specializes in the utilization of insects as a conduit for food, feed, and pharma opportunities. Detroit Ento is a member of FoodLab Detroit and worked with Ross MBA students during the Ross Leadership Challenge in 2016. We will use this opportunity to ask Anthony about his experiences working to start a company in the food industry and in the city of Detroit.

Let ZLI Entrepreneur in Residence, Josh Botkin, guide you through an exploration of what a business model is and why a strong one is critical to any new venture. They'll look at real examples from Airbnb, Dell, Google, Southwest Airlines, 23andMe, Uber, Warby Parker, and others, examining which were successful and why.

[EVC] Local Incubator+Accelerator Meet-Up

A chance for students to get a better understanding of the incredibly rich entrepreneurship ecosystem in Ann Arbor and surrounding areas. This will be an informal meet and greet to hear more about what's happening and how students can get involved. The event will have a similar format to ZLI's Mingle 'n' Match series (short pitches up front, a lot of time for networking after). We will ask the speakers a few questions to about their experiences working with student or new entrepreneurs: "What is the most frustrating thing you see student entrepreneurs do?" "What characteristics should students be considering more when developing a new business idea?" We promise interesting + relevant discussions, no matter where you are in your entrepreneurial journey.

Light refreshments will be provided by EVC and ZLI.

[EVC+Tech Club] Cognitir Web Dev Super Workshop

EVC and Tech Club are partnering with Cognitir, a global web development training company, to teach students how to create state-of-the art websites with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in a one-day, interactive course. Cognitir has taught this web development course at other top MBA programs including Columbia Business School, Kellogg School of Management, London Business School, and Kenan-Flagler.
