Emerging Markets Conference 2018: The Future of Emerging Markets
The University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business Emerging Markets Club (EMC) proudly presents the 2018 Emerging Markets Conference. This conference brings together leading experts from around the world to discuss some of the biggest challenges faced by emerging economies today. In 2017, the conference drew 100+ attendees from all over the University of Michigan and hosted speakers ranging representing firms from the World Bank Group to Google.
In the past two decades, emerging markets have played an increasingly important role in the global economy and are expected to deliver almost half of the global growth in 2019. However, this rapid expansion comes with its own challenges. Emerging markets have faced difficult domestic challenges, especially the balancing act between strengthening policy and promoting economic growth. In addition, this growth has not benefited everyone in the economy. Although on average the standard of living in emerging markets has increased, more than a billion people remain in poverty and outside of the formal economy. The private sector has gradually shifted its role to achieve positive economic outcomes while improving the life of marginalized communities in emerging markets.
