On Monday October 3rd, the Human Capital Club hosted a panel of HR and Human Capital executives from Cisco, Citi, Deloitte and Whirlpool. Former Ross graduates and MBA2 interns representing these companies also attended and contributed to the discussion during the subsequent networking reception. It was an enriching evening moderated by Ross’s own Diana Economy. All who attended came away from the panel with deeper insight into today’s Hot Topics in Human Capital.
The value of innovative technology was the most prevalent theme throughout the evening, with each executive citing both the effectiveness of newly implemented technologies and the importance of innovation in the Human Capital space as critical current topics. Kathy Radatz, Managing Director of HR Transformation at Citi, stated that her organization is so technology driven that one might consider Citi a technology company with a banking license. David Heather, HR Director of Cisco Canada, provided examples of how the use of new technologies has advanced Cisco’s organizational intelligence. Camille Cunningham, Senior Director of Global Talent Development at Whirlpool, shared that Whirlpool had recently put new global processes into practice in her division and that a critical component of this transition involved the use of new technologies to prompt culture change. David Parent, Principal with Deloitte’s Human Capital Consulting Practice, observed that technology-based solutions are key elements of the firm’s efforts to improve and transform existing HR operations within the organizations that they serve.
The panel also shared experiences which demonstrated the importance of leadership development. Specific examples included providing team members diverse and clear career paths within their respective organizations, maintaining standardized and constructive benchmarks for evaluating performance, and balancing an organization’s investment in the next generation while delivering meaningful people-based business solutions that are immediately impactful. Each executive explained how these strategies have simultaneously strengthened his or her respective leadership pipelines and increased employee engagement.
